LVLP Coating Systems

EFD’s Low Volume Low Pressure (LVLP) valve systems apply drug solutions and other coatings to stents and catheters in precise amounts without waste, mist or overspray. Consistent coating placement and thickness increases yields, reduces production costs and improves process control.

The precision stainless steel spray valve uses two air inputs – one to actuate the valve and one to control fluid distribution. The LVLP design uses a low fluid flow rate, so that very little air pressure (typically only 1-3 psi) is needed to apply coating as a soft, precise spray. This ensures high transfer efficiency without overspray or mist. A variety of spray patterns can be produced by changing the nozzle and air cap.

A separate valve controller makes it simple to fine tune nozzle air pressure for different coating materials and viscosities. The system can be cycled up to 400 times a minute.
